Tower Climb has been a game that I’ve been keeping an eye on since I first heard about it. A recent sale prompted me to finally try it out and what we have is an interesting mix of rogue-like and platformer design wrapped up in an old-school pixel aesthetic. Don’t let the cute graphics fool you however, this is a brutal game and is not for everybody.

This week, the kickstarter for the 2d/3d platformer Super Axe Boy went live. The game is about recapturing old school platformer gameplay with the added twist of 2d and 3d level design. I had a chance to talk to lead developer Matthias Falk and ask him some questions about the game and platformer design.

Airscape the Fall of Gravity attempts to one up the challenging platforming of Super Meat Boy with a game built around numerous deathtraps and no such thing as a dedicated floor. However in an attempt at making something different, the developers of Airscape messed with some core fundamentals of both platformer and camera design, to create a game that I literally can’t play anymore.

Tinertia (1)

Tinertia is an up and coming platformer from Candescent Games and has been on early access for some time. The game is nearing completion and I had a chance to check it out. This is a very challenging game built around one specific gimmick that I feel may be trouble for some gamers.
