Gods Will Be Watching is turning out to be a very polarizing game, with many reviewers (including me) marking it down heavily for brutal difficulty and very rigid design while others are praising it. The game is the latest example in a form of design that I’m just not a fan of and what I’ve dubbed mechanical gameplay.
As we’ve seen time and time again, being the bad guy can be a fun experience. And one of the ultimate bad guys around would be a deadly disease which the developers of Plague Inc Evolved are counting on. Inspired by the hit flash game Pandemic, Plague Inc Evolved has mutated into a deadlier strain and has a lot to show while still being on Early Access.
Gods Will Be Watching is an adventure game of tense moments, where you’ll be forced to make tough decisions that straddle the grey side of morality. Unfortunately the tough choices are sandwiched between poorly defined puzzles and an amazing pixel art style.
Playing through Abyss Odyssey, the latest game from Ace Team has left me cold. The developers touted a combat system akin to fighting games but from what I’ve seen, what they have doesn’t come close. The art of making not just a fighting game but one that can stand up at a tournament like EVO requires a special eye to detail and one that a lot of designers don’t have.
