Coming in at #5 for 2016, we turn to the spiritual sequel to one of the few games to almost succeed in taking on Diablo in the ARPG market.
Zombasite is the latest ARPG from Indie studio Soldak Entertainment. They’ve been making a name for themselves with dynamic worlds and procedurally generated situations to keep the player guessing. Zombasite is not only their first early-access game, but the first game to be released on Steam at launch day. Unfortunately, Zombasite is as unfocused as the zombie horde that’s coming to get you.
Necropolis is the latest game from Harebrained Schemes and one that I’ve been looking forward to. The studio wanted to try its hand at combining the rogue-like and action RPG genre with a unique game. Now that Necropolis is out, unfortunately it misses the point of what makes both these games compelling.
Forced by Betadwarf was an interesting attempt at co-op-based game design from the new studio. Following our interview last year, the team went to work on a completely different game design and the results are Forced: Showdown. Featuring a combination of ARPG and CCG design, this is an impressive idea from the studio.
