Between Two Point Hospital and Little Big Workshop, we seem to be having a mini-revival of the Bullfrog sim-style of games. Trying to balance the light-hearted gameplay with depth has always been a struggle with this kind of design. With Little Big Workshop, the developers have a fantastic foundation, but leave us without much else.
For this week’s Dissecting Design, we’re going back to look at the dungeon management sim genre of Dungeon Keeper 2. Combining multiple genres, the game falls into the master of none category.
Prison Architect has earned several accolades even before the game was officially released; it was one of the first crowd-funded games off of Kickstarter and the current poster child of how to do Early Access right. Now that it’s out we can see the game in its full glory, but for those that have already played it, not much has changed.
