Coming in at #5 for 2016, we turn to the spiritual sequel to one of the few games to almost succeed in taking on Diablo in the ARPG market.
This week was a special cast as I welcomed back Tim Wetzel from A Paladin Without a Crusade to talk about the recent Street Fighter 5 launch problems, and joining us was Game-Wisdom’s first contributor: James Ellerby.
Grim Dawn is finally out: The spiritual successor to Titan Quest made by Crate Entertainment has been in development for years now. After a successful crowd-funding campaign and then stint on Early Access, it’s time to talk about the game for real. Since Grim Dawn’s original announcement, ARPG design has seen a number of big name games released, but there is plenty of old and new in the game to get ARPG fans excited.
Titan Quest was an underrated ARPG from developer Iron Lore which attempted to challenge Diablo 2 back in the day. But lack of sales and DRM issues caused the series and the company to go under. But members of the team got together and formed Crate Entertainment to create a spiritual successor to Titan Quest titled Grim Dawn.
After years of being worked on and funded via pre-orders, the game is now on Early Access and while it is coming along, there is still plenty of work left to do.
