This past week, I finally joined the masses with getting my first Smartphone. The second I got home, I quickly went to the play store to install all the crazy mobile games I’ve heard my friends talk about over the last few years. I’ve talked about my thoughts on mobile gaming in the past without having a Smartphone to actually see it firsthand. Now that I do, my opinion has gotten even worse on the market.
Recently, I’ve talked about the issues with defining consumers from fans when it comes to the game market. One of the major examples of not paying heed to this would be MMOs of the last decade. MMOs rose in popularity to dominate the scene, before crashing down in the late 00’s. The change has been happening for some time, but soon we might see an even more radical shift in how we think of portable gaming. Mobile games for smartphones became the standard for most people years ago, but there has been one holdout that hadn’t yet taken the plunge.
Nintendo, once commanders of the mobile market through the original Game Boy and now the 3DS is finally developing games for mobile devices, and the move comes not a moment too soon.
