Collecting things is one of the most basic impulses we have in all walks of life. Collecting stickers, stamps, videogames, and many more. Game designers have used that allure to keep players invested in getting that special “100% completion” mark on their games. Despite how simple this addiction can be, it’s still hard for designers to come up with meaningful ways to get us to waste our time.
Following the success of Mad Max Fury Road, it was likely that we would be getting a movie tie-in game, and while Mad Max certainly stars the main character, the game takes a different road thanks to Avalanche Studios who made the amazing Just Cause 2. Despite that pedigree, Mad Max doesn’t quite hit the same mark as Just Cause 2, but the game definitely has scrapped together the best parts of recent popular genres to create a serviceable game.
Satellite Reign was one of many successful kickstarters funded with the goal to bring back a classic game to modern audiences; in this case, the classic yet futuristic world of Syndicate and Syndicate Wars. The game is now out of Early Access and ready for people to take on the future. While it’s not exactly the same flavor as the original game, Satellite Reign is a unique combination of strategy and open world gameplay, but this future tech has some bugs in the system.
