Today’s post looks at a rarely used form of difficulty design in the form of sculptable difficulty. We have seen games with the option to alter the difficulty during play, but sculptable difficulty takes things further and allows the player to create the challenge they’re looking for.
Today’s Critical Thought is on the concept of sculptable difficulty, or the ability to let the player fine-tune the difficulty to their needs. There are very few games that make use of this in a way that lets the player control the difficulty, and be rewarded accordingly. I also had a special announcement, as my name was featured in my local community paper which I’m very excited about.
