This week, David D’Angelo of Yacht Club Games returned to the cast to catch up and talk about designing Shovel Knight and what’s next for our hero.
For this week’s Dissecting Design, we’re taking a look at Shovel Knight. The game was pitched as a throwback to classic 2D game design, and the developers created an amazing mix of old and modern elements. I also looked at the first expansion and talked about what’s coming next for the game and brand.
In light of the reported issues of Mighty No 9’s problems at launch, it was a great pleasure to have a chance to check out 20XX: a rogue-like mixed with the classic Mega Man-styled design. The game has a great chocolate mixed with peanut butter-like design, and while it’s not finished yet, this is a great game to look forward to.
