Furi is one of those rare games that are built entirely around boss fights. Very few games do this, as it’s hard to properly keep the player engaged with such a distilled game. With a challenging system and characters designed by the creator of Afro Samurai, this is one game that held my attention.
Starward Rogue came out of nowhere from strategy game developer Arcen Games, and feels like a departure from the studio’s MO of high level strategy game design. With Starward Rogue, they’ve entered the genres of bullet-hell shooters and roguelites with the first action-heavy title from the strategy game studio.
Galak-Z recently made the move from PSN to the PC and I wanted to check it out after all the positive buzz it got. This shooter manages to combine rogue-like design with an elevated take on the shmup genre. It comes close to be an amazing rogue-like, but some design limitations do hurt it somewhat.
