The Most Successful Video Game Series of All Time


Video games have existed for almost half a century. Starting with the classic Pong, through the golden arcade age to the most modern sports simulations, video games have taken an incredible development in this time. Over the years some successful franchises have emerged. In 2022, many new titles will once again be launched on the market. Today, we present to you the most popular video game series of all time. 

#1 Super Mario

 Hardly any game character stands for Nintendo as much as the lineage and legacy of Super Mario. The little plumber first appeared in the first Donkey Kong part in 1981.Over the years, other titles in the main series and various spin-offs were added. At least as popular as the main series is the racing variant Mario Kart for the Super Nintendo. If you add up all the game series with Mario, you get around 650 million units sold worldwide. This makes the Nintendo classic the most successful video game series of all time. 

#2 Call of Duty

 In less than 20 years, Call of Duty has secured second place among the most successful video games and also eSports of all time – which you can bet on the best online Rust betting sites in 2022. The first part of the first-person shooter was released by Activison in 2003 and quickly became a box office hit. Since then, numerous other titles have been released. The first Call of Duty: Black Ops sold a record-breaking 5.6 million copies within the first 24 hours. #3 Tetris

 Tetris is a true computer game classic. In 1984, Tetris was first released for the Soviet Elektronika 60 computer.  The game was then also distributed in the West via Nintendo and became a complete success. Especially the version for the Game Boy made the game a popular break filler.  In the meantime, around 400 million units of the puzzle classic have also been sold. Unlike many other games, Tetris was released for almost every system. 

#4 GTA

 Fans have been eagerly waiting for the latest version of GTA for almost ten years now. 2013 saw the release of GTA V, the last installment in the series so far. GTA combines elements of action-adventure, racing games, and third-person shooters and is now considered one of the best open-world games ever.  It all started in 1997 with the first title, in which the player carried out missions for rival gangs in a bird’s eye view. Starting with GTA III, it was possible to play in a 3D world in a third-person perspective for the first time.  Since then, the gameplay has continued to evolve. Especially the creative and sometimes violent storylines make GTA one of the most popular, but also most controversial game series. Over 350 million units sold speak for themselves. 

#5 FIFA

 Since 1993, Electronic Arts has published a new edition of the football simulation produced by EA Sports every year.  Since EA Sports has most of the licenses of the clubs and players, FIFA offers an absolutely realistic football scenario. Meanwhile, different game modes like manager or player careers provide a lot of variety.  In the World Cup years, there is usually also a special World Cup edition. Also in FIFA 22, you can play with the best national teams in the world. Since 1993, over 340 million units of the FIFA series have been sold.
