This week was supposed to be a simple cast with Ken, returning guest Lorson and myself but instead turned into a tangent filled discussion.
At first we stayed on topic about Ken’s recent trip to PAX — What he saw, people he spoke to and what was going on at the Diversity Lounge. Things kept on track as we talked about my time with Injustice: Gods Among Us and what I liked and disliked about the PC port. Ken went through the list of games he played this week while Lorson talked about her time with Civ 5 and Payday 2.
Then the mere mention of Origin started a rant fueled by our hatred of DRM, SimCity 5 and companies and games that annoy us. This spawned the screenshot you see for this week’s podcast, courtesy of Lorson. The tangents continued talking about the poor reboots of X-Com with The Bureau and Thief. Then we talked about the Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes release and the thoughts of spending so much on a prologue/demo.
I attempted to steer things back on track continuing my discussion about game value from last week. Then we learned more about the TF 2 addiction that has gripped Lorson and Ken. My attempt to help them was met by them insulting my TF 2 item collection later in the cast. But we did have a good discussion about the changes in game value and a little about our psychology when it comes to buying games these days.
- Here is my cast with Jon Shafer where we talked originally about game value
- And my post talking about the declining value of video games
