This week’s cast was an amazing discussion with Michel Sabbagh on the topic of immersion in games and the evolution of emergent game design.
There’s way too much to neatly break down for the cast. Our topic was on the subject of immersion and the right and wrong ways of bringing the player into the game. There are many examples that we talked about and how immersion can also lead to emergent game design. We also talked about the issue of feeling “the hand of the designer” impacting the player’s experience.
Emergent game design is one of the hardest elements to do right, but as we’ve talked about, it can lead to some of most amazing games around. This was a long cast and we did not cover everything about immersive game design, but hopefully this was a good start.
