This week on the Perceptive Podcast, Jason McMaster from Quarter to Three joined me to once again talk about the horror genre in honor of Halloween.
Unfortunately Chris Gardiner couldn’t make it this time and we kept things pretty light. We started off talking about the announcement of the Amiibo line from Nintendo and our thoughts on it.
We then moved on to talk briefly about some games we’re playing, for me it was Spacebase DF-9 and Dungeon of the Endless. Jason talked about Sunset Overdrive and the alpha for Evolve — the next game from the original Left 4 Dead developers.
Lastly we talked more about horror or the lack thereof from this year. Neither of us have played Alien Isolation yet unfortunately but we did talk about a variety of topics relating to horror. Creating good horror is about making a game from the very start in the horror genre, not taking a third person shooter and slapping some monsters on it. And hopefully we’ll continue to see the Indie market create some innovative horror titles beyond just hiding from monsters.
- Here is my analysis on Dungeon of the Endless
- Jason talked more about horror this past week on the Quarter to Three podcast
- Here is an interesting post on Gamasutra looking at various elements that create horror and tension
- And lastly here is last year’s horror podcast where we talked at length about the genre
