This week on the cast, I spoke with founder and lead designer of Serenity Forge Z to talk about his studio, passion for game design and their latest game Luna’s Wandering Stars.
We started off talking about how Serenity Forge was started and why Z wanted to become a game designer and about the types of games he likes to make and how he and his team are working on multiple games at the same time compared to focusing on one at a time. Discussing the types of games Z likes to make brought us to a quick discussion on how the definition of a video game has changed over the years as well as the challenges of releasing a unique game today.
We also had a great conversation about balancing out passion with business when it comes to making games and running a successful studio. Sometimes people can be blinded by their passion and neglect what it takes to make your studio profitable and that can be very tricky to balance right. Another topic we discussed was how game design as a whole has changed over the last 20 years and how certain elements became standardized among game developer.
That let us segue way into talking about recent trends like VR and crowdfunding and what are Z’s thoughts on them. For our final topic, we talked more about the design behind Luna’s Wandering Stars and what are Z’s plans for future content if the game sells well.
- Here is my review of Luna’s Wandering Stars along with Serenity Forge’s site and a game trailer they just put up for Luna
- And last but not least, where you can buy Luna on Steam
