Tonight Ken and I were joined by a friend of mine: Corvus Elrod who runs the company Zakelro! and an expert in talking about storytelling and narrative. He’s been keeping quiet for this past year and it was great to have a chance to finally catch up.
We first started talking about Corvus’ big project — Bhaloidam which is a tabletop storytelling platform which he was able to describe it far better than I could. We then moved on to discuss how early access and kickstarter has changed the industry dramatically.
We also discussed his low violence game challenge and how that has impacted the games he played this year.
Our tangent this week was on the recent interview with Paul Dini who talked about Cartoon Network’s reasoning behind why they don’t like girls watching their boy targetted shows. Along with a brief shout out to Gravity Falls, Avatar the Last Airbender and My Little Pony.
Lastly, we talked about storytelling and his thoughts on the types of games he prefers and how he likes games where the player is given control over the narrative. We also slightly spoiled some basic stuff about the latest Zelda game but nothing too specific.
- Here are the links to Corvus’s site: Zakelro! and the Bhaloidam specific section and the kickstarter
- We didn’t talk too much about the process of setting up the Bhaloidam kickstarter as Corvus has already written about it. First about how to have success on kickstarter, another about setting up proper rewards and finally about how the profit from the kickstarter was used
- Lastly, here is the link to a piece about the recent Cartoon Network controversy
