This week on the cast I was joined by psychologist and Game Industry analyst Jamie Madigan for a discussion of recent industry topics as well as his upcoming book on psychology and the Game Industry.
After introductions we talked a little about the console market and what our thoughts are on Valve’s foray into it with the Steambox. We also cracked the code and managed to deduce what the next Half Life game will be, even though it may not come within our lifetimes.
News this week, we discussed EA’s continued use of monetization with the recent scandal over the Dungeon Keeper mobile game. Jamie brought up Flappy Bird and how it seemed to drive the internet crazy… or crazier than usual. I brought up the recent F2P game Loadout which Jamie and I have both started playing this week.
For our main topic we discussed Jamie’s upcoming book and how it will use psychology to examine a variety of topics regarding game design, consumer behavior and game development. I also picked Jamie’s brain on the topics of sexism in the Game Industry as well as the always popular topic: Are video games making people violent?
