Developing Dicetiny and Creating Games in South Korea

This week on the cast, Mike Lee of Fakedice joined me to talk about his studio’s upcoming game Dicetiny, as well as the state of the Game Industry in South Korea.

Dicetiny

We started with talking about how Fakedice got started and a discussion on the current game development scene in South Korea. Even though South Korea is known as the Mecca of E-Sports, there isn’t a lot of information about what it’s like to make games there.

What’s interesting, is how they decided to put Dicetiny on the PC market rather than mobile, and how it echos the discussion I had with Rahul Sehgal a few weeks ago. We talked more about the difference in the PC vs. mobile market and what that means against F2P mechanics.

After that, we spoke more about Dicetiny and how the game was first conceived and some of the challenges of board and CCG-based game design. For our final points, I asked Mike about his thoughts on Early Access and Kickstarter, and what does the future hold for Dicetiny if the game does well. Stay tuned, as I will have a spotlight of Dicetiny up soon on the Game-Wisdom Youtube channel.
