Whether you’re a motorhead, a hardcore racing game enthusiast, more of a casual player or love cars but are new to gaming – there’s a game out there for you. When it comes to car games, the choice is really varied, and interestingly enough, the best racing games don’t have to be the newest, and you don’t have to own the most sophisticated games console to enjoy a challenging course. The race is all about the challenge, and these days you can race nearly anything through your favorite console or even your phone. So, here are nine games that all car-lovers should play.
Supersonic racing
Supersonic racing is the latest official Formula One game which features twelve over the top wacky characters and vehicles which can race against each other in four crazy worlds; the Ocean World where you will race through a fantastic underwater environment, Trash World, the place where all that garbage you throw away each week goes; Game World and Nightmare World which is dark, creepy, slimy and scary.
Madalin Stunt Cars 2
In the expansive open world of Madalin Stunt Cars 2, you can pick your car and drift, drag and race your way through three massive fully explorable maps. Choose from a Huracan, LaFerrari, Pagani or Veneno and race through cities and execute some amazing trick stunts.
Mad Catz Pro Racing Force Feedback Wheel
Another one for the Xbox One, this game needs a steering wheel and a pedal for a proper driving experience – however, having the pedal setup does add to the cost quite a bit.
Need For Speed Most Wanted
Need for Speed is basically an illegal street racing game where you have to evade the police, so it’s a great way to be a bit naughty without actually having to break any laws or put anyone in danger, and the list of Need for Speed games is huge as the first version came out in 2004. However, the version that is the best would be the Most Wanted — the 2005 version, not the 2012 version. During the game, you can use a selection of cars including the BMW M3 GTR, Subaru Impreza, Ford GT, Aston Martin DB9, and the Porsche 911 Turbo S, and make your way up the “blacklist”, which then culminates in a police chase which makes the game fantastic fun.
Forza Motorsport 6
The Forza franchise is an Xbox exclusive and has always had a huge emphasis on realism. Motorsport 6, which is the most recent entry, features over 450 vehicles, 150 different driving surface types, and 26 true-to-life racing locations. There are even virtual models of individual car components, and the cars perform based on how the pieces combine with each other, just like they would in real life. Every car in the game is customizable down to the tire pressure, and the game even simulates human drivers.
DiRT Rally
Made by developer Codemasters, DiRT Rally fully supports Oculus Rift VR headsets, and for most people, it is the closest they will ever get to actually experiencing professional rally racing. The game is mostly set in European tracks, so you can get a good look around some beauty spots too.
Gran Turismo
Gran Turismo has a lot to offer car enthusiasts, with at least 28 different track courses to challenge, and amazing attention to detail.
Grand Theft Auto 5
GTA 5 has been around for over five now and is still going as strong as ever, with the game’s publisher Take-Two announcing that more than 75-million copies of the game have been sold since 2013. GTA consistently keeps up with the times and has a steady supply of cars to race.
Super Mario Kart
This game has been around for a long time, since 1992 but its popularity has not waned. While Super Mario Kart has gone through many incarnations, it is still a game that people almost love to hate as it is fun and challenging all at the same time, which is what any kart-type of race game should be. Also, it’s a game that’s made for nearly any level of gamer. The latest version is number 8, but you can find older games just about anywhere. Normally racing against 12 other racers, you have a wide choice of characters to choose from and what players call an even wider choice of courses to have fun.
